Legendary American rock group The Marshall Tucker Band was formed in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Its distinctive sound, which combines blues, country, and jazz, contributed to the early 1970s development of the Southern rock subgenre. After 50 years of recording and touring with several line-ups, lead vocalist Doug Gray is the only original band member still regularly performing with the group.

Tommy Caldwell, who played lead guitar, steel guitar, vocals, and was the band's major songwriter, Doug Gray, Jerry Eubanks, George McCorkle, Paul Riddle, and Jerry Eubanks were all part of the initial lineup when it was formed in 1972.
