Zebrahead released its self-titled debut album in April 1998 on the independent Doctor Dream Records label. Later that year, they signed with Columbia Records and released Waste of Mind, their mainstream debut. Numerous songs from their demo release were included on the album, including "Get Back," a minor radio hit that peaked at No. 32 on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart in the United States. Their second album, Playmate of the Year, was released in August 2000 and peaked at No. 4 on the U.S. Top Heatseekers list. An EP called Stupid Fat Americans was then released as a Japan-only item in February 2001.
The band has thirteen studio albums under their belt as of 2023, with their sound morphing over time to incorporate punk, pop-punk, and alternative rock influences.
