Lawrence Joseph Hogan Jr. served as Maryland's 62nd governor from 2015 to 2023. Hogan, a well-known moderate Republican, formerly served as Maryland's secretary of appointments from 2003 to 2007, and from 2019 to 2020, he chaired the National Governors Association.

Hogan's father, Lawrence Hogan, a three-term congressman, had an impact on his interest in politics. Hogan persevered despite running unsuccessful elections for Maryland's 5th congressional district in 1981 and 1992, the latter of which was a tight struggle against incumbent Steny Hoyer.
