Monte's father, Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz, who was diagnosed and died of complications from colon cancer, opened the Redwood Empire Ice Arena a couple of years later. Monte Schulz published his first novel, Down By The River, in 1990, and spent the next twelve years writing a novel of the Jazz Age, of which This Side Of Jordan is only one of three parts.
