Navarro, who was born in Cuba, moved to the United States with his family when he was eight years old as a result of the Bay of Pigs invasion. He continued higher study and graduated from Slippery Rock University with a master's degree in international relations after receiving a bachelor's degree in justice administration from Brigham Young University. Navarro worked for the FBI as a special agent and supervisor, specialized in behavioral analysis and counterintelligence. He served as a founding member of the prestigious FBI Behavioral Analysis Program, a commander of a SWAT team, and a pilot for the Bureau.
After leaving the FBI, Navarro concentrated on authoring books and giving speeches to spread his understanding of human behavior. He has lectured at the Harvard Business School numerous times and served as an adjunct professor at Saint Leo University. Navarro is also a fellow at the Institute for Intergovernmental Research and has worked as a consultant for the State Departments since 2003.
