Robert E. Kahn Booking Agency Profile

Book Robert E. Kahn for your next corporate event, function, or private party.
American electrical engineer Robert Kahn collaborated with Vinton Cerf to design the Internet as one of its primary architects. The A.M. Turing Award, the greatest accolade in computer science, was given to Kahn and Cerf for their groundbreaking work on internetworking, which included creating and implementing TCP/IP, the foundational communications protocol of the Internet, as well as for their outstanding networking leadership.
Kahn graduated from City College of New York with a degree in engineering and went on to Princeton University for his master's and PhD in electrical engineering. Kahn joined Bell Laboratories as an assistant professor of electrical engineering shortly after receiving his PhD, and he later taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
But it was Kahn's position as a senior scientist at Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Bolt Beranek & Newman, an engineering consulting business, that introduced him to the ARPANET's software development process.
Known as packet switching, the network's fundamentally different architecture divided communications into numerous "packets" that individually traveled over numerous circuits to reach their common destination. However, the ARPANET was more than just the Internet's forerunner; it was the shared technological environment that gave rise to a whole generation of computer scientists.
After leaving the IPTO, Kahn was president of the Corporation for National Research Initiatives, a Reston, Virginia-based nonprofit organization devoted to the public's access to network technologies. He was one of four people who received the Charles Stark Draper Prize for their contributions to the development of the Internet from the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. Among Kahn's many honors was the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He was also the first person to be inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame. The Internet entry in Encyclopaedia Britannica was written by Kahn..
