Then, just when his years of hard work had paid off handsomely and he had received the life-altering call from Music City's famed label head Benny Brown, a terrible accident could have cost him both his life and his record deal.
He lost his footing and fell a dangerous 20 feet to the ground, landing on hard rock while he and his father were up on the roof inspecting a broken chimney that needed to be fixed before winter.
The musician was rushed to a hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, right away, in excruciating pain and shock. He was informed there that he had sustained a pulmonary contusion to his right lung, shattered three ribs, chipped two pieces of bone, and fractured his pelvis in three places. However, the doctors noted that he was lucky not to have had any brain or spinal damage and that he should fully recover in three months. Hatcher returned to the stage three weeks later.
