Married, Mr. Bermudez resides in North Carolina with his three sons and three grandchildren. After earning his Summa cum Laude bachelor's degree in behavioral science in 2012, he collaborated with Connecticut lawmakers to end the state's death punishment.
Along with this, he has established a prestigious career in public speaking, giving over 300 talks at institutions such as the US Department of Justice, New Haven and Hartford Federal District Courts in Connecticut, Cornell, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, and Columbia.
He has completed lecture tours in Italy, Germany, Japan, and France as well as being the author of several publications, including Pruno, Ramen, and a Side of Hope, which features essays by Mr. Bermudez and his daughter Carissa. Columbia University's School of Law published his essay "Stolen Happiness.".
