Ray LaHood is an American politician who has most previously served as the 16th United States Secretary of Transportation under President Barack Obama. LaHood was born in Peoria, Illinois, and he began has earned his B.S. in education and sociology from Bradley University. After earning his degree, LaHood went on to begin teaching before working as the director of the Rock Island County Youth Services Bureau, and then working as an administrative assistant for Tom Railsback. He served in the House of Representatives for 14 years where he established the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, and was a supporter for the Lincoln Presidential Library. He also served on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the House Appropriations Committee.
