Composer and musician Zoë Keating has dedicated the past two decades to investigating the auditory possibilities of string instruments. She elicits sounds from the periphery of her cello, skillfully stacking them into music that is both "swoon-inducing" and unclassifiable, yet represents "a distinctive blend of old and new." She is recognized for her utilization of technology to record and sample her cello both live and in the studio, as well as for her DIY methodology, creating, recording, and publishing her works independently of a record company.
Originating from Canada, Keating commenced cello studies at the age of eight and subsequently engaged in electronic music and contemporary composition during her Liberal Arts education at Sarah Lawrence College.
