Put together by manager Louis Walsh in 1993, the members were handpicked from auditions by more than 300 applicants. At their height, they were one of the biggest-selling artists in music. After six years together, the members decided to take time off from the group to pursue solo projects. Rumors came to a head in 2007 with reports that all five members and their manager had met to discuss and organize a comeback tour. The tour began in May 2008, with 200,000 tickets sold for the tour within three hours. In 2009, member Stephen Gately unexpectedly passed away.
