The band comprises of Walter Schreifels with vocals and guitar, Ian Love on guitar, Cache Tolman on bass guitar, and Sam Siegler with drums. The band was formed by Schreifels and gathered veteran hardcore rock musicians from bands such as Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today, and Iceburn. The band's name comes from a video game made by Capcom called, Rival Schools: United By Fate. Rival School's first release was a series of EPs that were collaborations with other bands and eventually a full length album titled, United By Faith, in 2001. A couple songs from the album were played frequently on MTV in the US and UK. The band had a falling out during 2003 when drummer Ian Love left for another band.
