Hunter Mahan was born May 17, 1982 in Orange California. He had an impressive amateur career, winning the 1999 5A Texas State High School Championship and the 1999 U.S. Junior Amateur. While attending the University of Southern California, Mahan was named the Pacific-10 Conference Freshman of the year. Hunter transferred to Oklahoma State University a year later where he was a two-time Big 12 Conference Player of the Year and a two-time first-team All American. Hunter was the runner-up at the U.S. Amateur in 2002 and won the Haskins Award in 2003 for outstanding collegiate golf. In 2003, Hunter turned pro and made it through qualifying school to earn a PGA Tour card for the 2004 season. He claimed his first victory in 2007 at the Travelers Championship and, due to all his success in 2007, was chosen by Jack Nicklaus as one of two captain's picks for the U.S. Presidents Cup. In 2010, Mahan won his second title at the Waste Management Phoenix Open followed by his third PGA Tour title at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Hunter came out strong in 2012, claiming the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship title in February as well as the Shell Houston Open the same year..
