Brendan Perry is an English singer and multi-instrumental artist. Perry was born in London in 1959 but moved to Auckland, New Zealand early in his education. Perry did not have formal musical education growing up so he began playing guitar at his catholic school on his own. Post schooling, Perry had a series of jobs until he joined the Scavengers in 1977. He originally played the bass for the band but took the role of lead singer when the original singer left. The band continued to play a mix of original and cover songs for two years before moving to Melbourne, Australia, due to lack of a recording deal. Perry eventually left the band to pursue a solo career. In 1981, Perry collaborated with Simon Monroe, Paul Erikson, and Lisa Gerrad to create, Dead Can Dance.
