Paul Konerko is an American former professional baseball player who played first baseman in the MLB. Konerko was born in Providence, Rhode Island, and he began his career playing high school baseball where he was named the Arizona Republic/Phoenix Gazette Player of the Year and helped lead his team to a Class 4-A state championship. He was also the school’s all-time leader in home runs and RBI. Konerko then signed a letter of intent to play college baseball at Arizona State and later was drafted in the first round of the MLB draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He first playing in minor league teams such as San Bernardino Spirit and the Albuquerque Dukes. From there, Konerko was traded to the Cincinnati Reds where he played 26 games before being traded again, to the Chicago White Sox, where he spent the rest of his career.
