Marlanna Evans, better known as her stage name Rapsody, is an American rapper and songwriter from Snow Hill, North Carolina. Rapsody began her career while studying at North Carolina State University. She joined the hip-hop collective, H2O, as well as Kooley High, even though at the time she had never rapped before. She gained the attention of producer 9th Wonder who featured her on his album “The Dream Merchant Vol.2.” She was then signed with 9th Wonder’s music group, It’s A Wonderful World Music Group, and she then began working on her solo career. Rapsody then began releasing mixtapes which included “Return of the B-Girl,” “Thank H.E.R. Now,” and “For Everything,” before going on to release her debut studio album, “The Idea of Beautiful.” Rapsody then released EPs which included “The Black Mamba,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Crown,” before releasing her second album, “Laila’s Wisdom,” which went on to earn Grammy Award nominations for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song. Her album was released through Jay-Z’s record label Roc Nation.
