Kirk Gibson is a former Major League Baseball player, coach and manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks. During his playing career, he was named the National League MVP and named to the All-Star team twice. Following his retirement as a player, he spent five seasons as a television analyst in Detroit, then became a coach for the Tigers. He was a Detroit Tigers television analyst on FSN Detroit for five seasons. Gibson was named the Tigers' bench coach by new Tigers manager and former Tigers teammate Alan Trammell. While coaching for the Tigers, he wore #22 after #23 was retired for Willie Horton. In his first full year as manager, Gibson led the Diamondbacks to their first NL West title, when most sports writers expected them to be in last place for the third time in a row. He was subsequently named NL Manager of the Year. When he finished his managing career he ended with a 353-375 regular season and a 2-3 post-season record. In 2017 Gibson was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame. Apart from baseball, Gibson is an avid deer hunter and he owns a hunting ranch with his friends David Wells and Jake Peavy. Most recently Gibson was diagnosed with Parkinsons disease.
